Process

Process to Add a Known Document Type

  1. Establish a definition of the document concept. Preferably using established definitions. Identify document’s distribution in the distribution map.
  2. Evaluate available LOINC Document Types, considering the words used and the position in the Type hierarchy.
  3. Evaluate available LOINC Setting and Role parts, considering if the specificity is necessary to meet principles of Canadian Ontology.
  4. Review the Display names of the concept (once paired with a SMD) for conformance with principles of Canadian Ontology.
  5. If no existing LOINC codes exist currently, attempt to arrange existing axis values to achieve the concept. If necessary, add to the axis values. Request a new LOINC code.
